Francis of Assisi, also known as Francesco, was born to a wealthy family. He spent his younger years as a troubador and later as a soldier.
Due to a profound conversion which brought him great love for Christ, however, Francis gave up his rich life to live a life of poverty, much to the chagrin of many people he knew.
Said to have a great affection for nature, Francis is seen as the patron saint of animals. Paintings and medals usually show him surrounded by birds and other creatures.
He is also often depicted receiving the Stigmata, or wounds of Christ, in front of the San Damiano crucifix.
ReligiousJewelry.com features some truly unique St. Francis of Assisi medals available in 14K Gold and Sterling Silver. We also carry Franciscan crosses.
